Dagashi Box September 2018 Review

Dagashi Box September 2018 Review

Hello my lovely little licornes ~ It has been a few months, maybe even a few years (!!), since I received my last subscription box full of the Japanese candy and snacks. The thing is, that I just can´t get enough of the Japanese sweets and snacks! They are just so tasty, delicious and even healthier! Their sweets don´t contain so much sugar and so many chemicals. But back to the topic - the last one which I came across and the one, which I will be reviewing today, is called DagashiBox. It is shipped directly from Tokyo and its shipping fee is completely free.

Each of the boxes should include - 35-45 items of Dagashi snack, 1-2 retro toys and 1-2 original goods. If you are interested, there is also an informative video about what dagashi actually means. A delivery time differs, from 2 to 4 weeks from ship date until arriving at the destination country. The treats included in the box may vary by country due to geographical reason.

What made me very happy and surprised about this box was its appearance. The stuff was included in a huge plastic box which can be re-used anytime for anything! ♥ Together with the snacks and candies, I got a badge, stickers and, a huge board game sheet with a dice and a vivid blue plastic bird toy whistle which is just adorable ♥

Japanese plastic bird whistle

Dagashi Box September Review

Explore the retro Japanese snacks and toys every month!

The first thing is this little tiny green ball which had a very soft and fluffy consistency. It reminded me of a marzipan or something similar and it was very tasty (as all of the items I got xD) ♥

On the picture above there are white grape gummies. At least I suppose since they tasted like that and they even looked like the tiny grapes. Personally, I really love a Japanese grape flavour

Skeleton Ramune Candy review

Skeleton Ramune Candy is contained in a purple plastic coffin-shaped box. BTW - I can´t wait to reuse it ♥ xD The candies were powdery and hard and bone-shaped. If you put them all together, you got a skeleton similar to the one pictured on the back side of the coffin. I really like ramune candies but I have to say that these ones were super-hard to even bite to xD I thought I will break my teeth, haha.

Calbee Potato Chips review

Calbee Potato Chips were one of my the most favourite snacks contained in this box. If you have ever tasted the Japanese potato chips, you surely know what I am talking about. These ones salty and seasoned, but I can´t actually name a certain taste. They had a very soft and fine texture. I would like to eat at least ten more packages xD

Kappa Ebisen were the crispy shrimp-flavoured sticks. Even I do not like seafood, neither the shrimps, I really liked and enjoyed eating these.

Dagashi Box September 2018 Review

The next item is crunchy corn rings. I only wished there were more of them, haha.

Kotubuko review

Crispy and fried Kotubuko looked like the tiny starts. Firstly, I was thinking they would taste like a milk or something since there is a milk can and a cow illustrated, but when I was actually chewing them, I had not any idea of their flavour (O.o)

Yakiniku Karubi Taro review

Yakiniku Karubi Taro is a chewy squid snack flavoured like a Korean barbecue. Another one smelled like a salty fish and I guess it was a Nagoya Miso Katsu snack from what I found on the Internet. I haven´t tried the first one since it didn´t look very appealing to me. The second one looked better, but I didn´t really like its taste so I didn´t even finish it whole.

Dagashi Box September Review

Random-flavoured candies and jelly ♥ Look at the one with Rilakkuma on itself ♥ Japanese jelly is definitely the best! I could finally eat some jelly without a tooth pain :)

Little Bobdog Strawberry Sticks review

Little Bobdog, in a lovely pink packaging, were the hard strawberry candy sticks. At first sight, I was thinking of them like the chewing gum cigarettes which I remember from my childhood. I ate almost all of them at once, so delicious they were! A really nice and fine sweet strawberry-flavoured :)

Dagashi Box September 2018 Review

This package above contained a few pieces of something which also looked and tasted like the potato chips.

Baby Star Yakisoba review

Baby Star Yakisoba was something new to me. What DagashiBox said? The yakisoba is a variation on Baby Star ramen which has been around for over 60 years! Opening the package brings a delicious smell of yakisoba sauce, and the noodles contain squid and vegetables for an authentic yakisoba taste. Well, to be honest, I don´t really like the seafood .. And I have to say that I haven´t tasted this package yet xD But I hope I will do it soon!

Dagashi Box September 2018 review

These dinosaur-shaped candies had a cola flavour! ♥ And look at that adorable packaging ♥ So cute, so yummy.

Dagashi Box September 2018 review

The chocolate candies placed on the elephant reminded me of our Lentilky. The pen with tiny chocolate balls I already had once. In the end of it, there is a real yellow pencil which you can draw with! Both of the variants were tasty - but well, how cannot chocolate candies be, right? :)

Dagashi Box September Review

In Dagashi box, there were also a few crackers - salty, seasoned = just perfect! ♥ I couldn´t get enough of them (T_T) The one on the photo above was rather salty, the one below more seasoned.

Dagashi Box September 2018 review

The item on the left, I suppose, was a sweet potato jelly Yaokin Yaki Imo Youkan. There was a picture of it on the packaging and it also tasted like that. And yes, I didn´t like this one very much (._.). The other one was just an ordinary salty cracker.

Ramune soda-flavoured ramune candies

Next are Ramune soda-flavoured candies contained a small can-like container. There are plenty of other flavours as well and are a common sight at festivals and dagashi stores. Their sale began in 1979, originally for the children who couldn't afford an actual can of soda. (source: DagashiBox) I had already had a few opportunities to try the ramune candies and that´s why I´m glad I got to taste them one more time. They remind me of something between the hard and powder candy.

Whistle candy review

Round Coris Whistle Ramue Candy was a bit powdery, candies. In the box below, there was a tiny blue plastic turtle toy included.

Plum Chewing Candy review

When I firstly saw the Plum Chewing Candy, I was thinking it will be a powder candy. But actually, it´s more like a chewing gum which won´t last you a long time xD Anyway, I just hope it was an edible chewing gum since I finished and swallowed every single bowl. They were sweet, plum-flavoured and powdery. When you started to chew them, they literally started to melt.

Dagashi Box September 2018 review

I have no idea what was this slice, but it tasted like something in a teriyaki sauce and vinegar.

Dagashi Box September 2018 review

In this package, there were adorable Rilakkuma stickers and a chewing candy.

Strawberry Mochi review

Strawberry Mochi, or daifuku, was so adorable and so foamy. It was really delicious since I just love the sweet flavour of the strawberries. Its texture was so soft and so fluffy ♥

These are probably pork-flavoured crunchy noodle snack, but I admit I haven´t tried these yet.

Senbei and peanut snack mix review

Senbei and peanut snack mix was sooo good! They were seasoned and a bit spicy. I just loved the combination of nuts and seasoning! ♥

Hime-sama no Takaramono review

Hime-sama no Takaramono, or a princess´s treasure, at least I guess (O.o) is an unexpectedly thick, soft cookie filled with a blueberry jam ♥ When I had my first bite, I felt like I arrived in the 7th heaven immediately ♥The packaging design features a princess whose treasure (the cookie) has apparently gone missing! Said according to DagashiBox ;) What an amazing and unique idea, right?

Dagashi Box September 2018 review

The box included even the one orange-like lollipop which you could put on your finger. Not very sweet, just perfectly delicate

Dagashi Box September Review

Firstly when I saw these candies, I was a bit sceptical. I had thought these would be the hard candies, but in the end, I´m really glad I gave them a try! These GUMMIES were fruity-flavoured and tasted like the real fruit! Not very sweet, a bit powdery. I can proudly say that these ones were one of the best candies I´ve ever eaten! ♥ There was also an edible bowl and a toothpick to pick them up!

Akabe Kurobe Gum review

These two chewing stripes are called Akabe Kurobe Gum. I felt like both of them had the same cola flavour but I may be wrong. As I already said so many times, Japanese candy, snacks and even the chewing gums are my the most favourite ones ♥ Even these have a powdery taste too.

Sanritsu Genji Pie review

Next is Sanritsu Genji Pie which tasted like a butter or palmatine cookie. There were two pieces in the package and they were probably one of the sweetest Japanese cookies I´ve ever had.

Sanritsu Genji Pie review

Umaibo Vegetable Salad Stick review

Umaibo Vegetable Salad Crunchy Corn Stick was very delicious too. In the past, I already tasted a few of them and I really wish we would have something similar in Slovakia too.

The last item was a package containing two biscuits with a filling.

Do you find these snacks and sweets tasty? Have you ever tried any Japanese candy and sweets before? :)

  1. It is always cool to see unboxing of boxes, but most of the time it is simply cheaper to buy Japanese sweets normally by individual packs. You can get 33 (mixed flavours) pieces of umaibo for around 1$
My favourite sweets are all ramune flavoured ones (they often put those gums/candies in gundam candy toys - Gundam Converge etc.)

Also, yours skill with camera is top level, really well made photos. I normally don't post here as it is mostly about female cosmetics (I would feel weird as a male to comment on those besides saying "yeah" and "aha"), but as I have sweet tooth so I am here right now reading all that post SECOND time just to think about that delicious snacks.

    Great work as always!

  3. I buy at Suruga-ya, but they hide theirs food section (it is still there, but not on main page) and it is Japanese only, so you need Proxy service (company that will order for you) or have friend who lives there (I have 2 friends there and I ask them to order stuff)

Možná to zkusím ještě před Vánocemi. Každopádně děkuji za tip a už se strašně těším, až ty sladkosti ochutnám! :3 Moc se mi líbí, jak mají ty roztomiloučké obaly, je to snad škoda jíst. :D
